BMX bikes are quite small, making them popular with kids, teens and to a lesser extent adults, many of whom prefer DJ (Dirt Jump) bikes with larger 24” wheels. Their geometry is meant for quick, nimble handling. BMX bikes have rigid forks for maximum efficiency and precise handling. The saddle is positioned low to be out of the way when the rider is performing tricks. The bikes have either one or two sets of “pegs” that come out the sides of the hubs, for additional foot positions during tricks. The bikes come with either street tires or knobby mountain tires, depending on intended use. As small as they are, BMX bikes are not light. They have sturdy frames to withstand big jumps and lots of abuse. BMX bikes are single speeds – it’s about getting up enough speed to perform a trick, or some gravity-assisted racing, and not about long rides.
In a word, BMX bikes are FUN – weehaa, little-kid fun for everyone! Related video
